The brand keeps its own tasting note short: peppermint, and an intense freshness. Ginger, jasmine, cinnamon and anise each share a tube with mint elsewhere in the 85ml line; this one keeps to peppermint, the reference point for the rest.

Marvis describes the paste itself as rich and concentrated, and it relies on calcium carbonate plus hydrated silica for the scrubbing. The fluoride in this tube comes as sodium fluoride, which helps prevent tooth decay. Lather comes from sodium lauryl sulfate, while xylitol and sodium saccharin supply a little sweetness under the peppermint.

Since 1997 Marvis has been owned by Ludovico Martelli, and the brand reports that every one of its toothpastes is produced in Italy, from aromas it works up with fragrance houses. How to use...

Brush twice daily for two full minutes with a pea-sized amount of paste. Afterwards, spit it out rather than swallowing any. Before the first brush, read the carton and follow its directions and any fluoride warnings or age limits printed there.
