Good to know: For a softer mint, Davids Mild Mint and Spearmint are both gentler.

Peppermint, menthol, eucalyptol and tea tree oil give this Davids hydroxyapatite toothpaste its cool, herbal edge, with lemon peel, wintergreen and anise in the finish.

Peppermint first, then something sharper. Davids Gum Health+Whitening Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste pairs peppermint oil with eucalyptol and tea tree oil, which give it a cooler, more herbal edge than the classic Davids Peppermint. Lemon peel oil, wintergreen and a little anise round out the finish.

Underneath sits the Davids Hydroxiâ„¢ base: calcium carbonate and hydrated silica as the cleaning agents, baking soda, birch-derived xylitol, and hydroxyapatite, the mineral that makes up about 97% of tooth enamel, in nano form. The fine abrasives and baking soda help lift everyday surface stains from coffee, tea and food, with no peroxide in the tube.

The formula is fluoride-free and SLS-free, using sodium cocoyl glutamate for its foam, and it has no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. It is made in the USA from domestic and imported materials and comes in a mint-green Davids metal tube, 4 oz / 113 g.

If a softer mint suits you better, Davids Mild Mint and Spearmint are built on a similar base.

How to use

Brush thoroughly after each meal for (2) minutes, or as directed by your dentist or doctor.

Full ingredients

calcium carbonate (limestone abrasive), vegetable glycerin, purified water, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), xylitol (birch derived), hydrated silica, hydroxyapatite (nano), sodium cocoyl glutamate, carrageenan (seaweed derived), cocos nucifera (coconut oil), mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, illicium verum (anise) fruit oil, mentha viridis (spearmint leaf) oil, menthol, eucalyptol, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil, gaultheria procumbens (wintergreen) oil, potassium chloride (potassium salt), stevia (leaf extract).

How is Gum Health+Whitening different from Davids Peppermint?

The base is shared: calcium carbonate, hydrated silica, baking soda, xylitol and hydroxyapatite. The difference is the oil blend. Gum Health+Whitening adds eucalyptol, tea tree oil, lemon peel oil and menthol to the peppermint, spearmint, anise and wintergreen.

What does it taste like?

Peppermint leads, then a cooler, more herbal note from eucalyptol and tea tree oil, with lemon peel brightening the finish. It is more bracing than the classic Peppermint and much stronger than Mild Mint or Spearmint.

Does it contain fluoride or SLS?

No to both. The formula is fluoride-free, and it foams with sodium cocoyl glutamate instead of sodium lauryl sulfate. It has no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.

What is hydroxyapatite?

Hydroxyapatite is a calcium phosphate, the mineral that makes up about 97% of tooth enamel. Davids uses it in nano form as the key ingredient of its fluoride-free Hydroxiâ„¢ formula. For advice on your own teeth, ask your dentist.

Is it a whitening toothpaste?

It helps lift surface stains from coffee, tea and food. That comes from fine abrasives (calcium carbonate and hydrated silica) and baking soda rather than peroxide or bleach, so expect a gradual change in brightness, not a sudden one.

Where is it made, and what is the tube?

Davids makes it in the USA from domestic and imported materials. It comes in a 113 g (4 oz) metal tube with a white cap. A Davids metal tube key, sold separately, makes it easy to squeeze out the last of the paste.
