Our view

Citrus blossom with two mints, on a conventional fluoride and SLS base: a sound pick for anyone tired of plain mint. Those wary of floral flavours will find Ginger Mint a safer bet.

Pairs well with

Two blossoms, two mints, one tube.

Orange and lemon blossom, floral and fruity, lead the flavour of Marvis Orange Blossom Bloom, with spearmint and peppermint behind them to keep it fresh, all in a 75ml tube. As orange toothpastes go, this is the floral kind. All four notes come from the flavouring, listed simply as Aroma, rather than from a fruit or blossom extract named on the ingredient list.

Fluoride comes with the flowers: sodium fluoride is in the formula by design. Sodium fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. Two cleaning powders, calcium carbonate and hydrated silica, sit near the top of the ingredient list. Further down the list, sodium lauryl sulfate provides the foam, while xylitol and sodium saccharin sweeten the blossom.

Ownership passed to the Ludovico Martelli company in 1997, Marvis says, and every tube is made in Italy. The oval portrait on the orange dotted label is the figure Marvis calls its Marquis, and he appears again on the silver carton.

It suits anyone drawn to floral and citrus notes. For mint and nothing else, Classic Strong Mint is the plainer choice; the rest of the Marvis range covers spice, dessert and other flowers.

The Benefits.

  • Orange and Lemon Blossom — floral and fruity blossom notes, as Marvis describes them, paired with spearmint and peppermint rather than a single mint.
  • Fluoride Included — sodium fluoride is on the ingredient list of this flavour, in a paste that puts taste first. Sodium fluoride helps prevent tooth decay.
  • The Cleaning Pair — calcium carbonate with hydrated silica; between them they do the cleaning while the paste is brushed over the teeth.
  • SLS Foam — sodium lauryl sulfate is listed, which is why the paste brushes up into the full, familiar foam of a standard toothpaste.
  • Xylitol Plus Saccharin — the two sources of sweetness in this paste; citric acid and sodium citrate are declared on the list as well.
  • Orange Cap, Dotted Label — a silver tube printed with an orange dotted label and closed with an orange cap, in a silver carton carrying the same pattern.
  • 75ml Tube — a little smaller than the 85ml tubes of the Marvis mint range; the carton is marked 75ml and 4.0 oz.

How to use...

Use a pea-sized dab of paste and brush twice daily, two minutes each time. Spit out the foam at the end and avoid swallowing it. For children, the carton warnings come first, and a dental professional can advise on an age-appropriate paste. Any other directions on the carton apply too.

FAQ

▸ Is Marvis Orange Blossom more floral or more citrus?
Both, by design. Marvis lists orange and lemon blossom, floral and fruity, with spearmint and peppermint for freshness. The result is a floral citrus toothpaste with two mints in it, for anyone who finds a straight mint too plain.

▸ Does Marvis Orange Blossom Bloom contain fluoride?
Yes, and the orange blossom does not change that: every Marvis flavour is made with sodium fluoride. Sodium fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. Pastes without fluoride sit on the hydroxyapatite shelf of this site.

▸ Is Marvis Orange Blossom Bloom SLS-free?
No. The blossom notes arrive in a sodium lauryl sulfate lather, the conventional foaming agent in toothpaste. SLS-free pastes sit together in their own collection on this site, for anyone who prefers to brush without it.

▸ What is in Marvis Orange Blossom Bloom toothpaste?
Calcium carbonate and hydrated silica clean, xylitol and sodium saccharin sweeten, sodium lauryl sulfate foams, and sodium fluoride supplies the fluoride. Titanium dioxide is there as a white pigment. The ingredient list names no orange oil, so the blossom character belongs to the Aroma blend.

▸ Is it okay to use Marvis toothpaste every day?
Yes. Orange Blossom Bloom is a fluoride toothpaste made for regular use, twice daily. A small, pea-sized dab does the job; spit rather than swallow, and keep to the directions and warnings on the carton.

▸ What other Marvis flavours sit near Orange Blossom Bloom?
Jasmin Mint is the closest relative: another flower set against mint, though in an 85ml tube. For dessert rather than blossom there is Black Forest, and for no flower at all, Classic Strong Mint keeps to peppermint.
